In response to the NSFW ban being enacted by Tumblr Staff, on December 17th 2018 I propose that we all log off of our Tumblr accounts for 24 hours.

The lack of respect and communication between staff and users is stark. Users have been begging staff to delete the porn bot outbreak, which has plagued the website for well over a year. The porn bots oftentimes send people asks and messages, trying to get them to go to a website full of viruses. They also spam advertisements on others posts.

Users have also begged that Tumblr ban neo-nazis, child porn, and pedophiles, all which run rampant on the site. The site/app got so bad that it was taken off the app store.

However, instead of answering the users, Tumblr has instead taken the liberty to ban all NSFW content, regardless of age. But users have already run into issues of their SFW content being marked as sensitive and being flagged as NSFW, not allowing them to share their work.

Not only does this discriminate again content creators, but it also discriminates against sex workers. Disgustingly, the ban will be enacted on December 17 which is also International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.

This ban is disgusting, and while I (and plenty of others) welcome porn bots and child porn being banned, the Tumblr filtration system is broken. It tags artistic work’s nipples as NSFW (when it is art), it tags SFW art as NSFW (when it is not), and does not stop the porn bots, neo-nazis and dozens of other issues.

This ban is discriminatory. This ban is ineffective. This ban is unacceptable.

To protest, log off of your Tumblr account for the entirety of November 17th. Log off at 12 am EST or 9PM PST and stay off for 24 hours. Don’t post. Don’t log on. Don’t even visit the website. Don’t give them that sweet ad revenue.

Tumblr’s stock has already taken a hard hit. Let’s make it tank. Maybe then they will listen to the users.

Reblog to signal boost! We must force change.

any of yall who agree with the nsfw ban keep in mind: they aren’t doing it to keep the minors safe or to get rid of pedophiles. they’re doing it because they wanna be back on the app store. they give less than a shit about their userbase and dont think for even one second that there are good intentions behind this ban

Not to be that bitch being horny on main, but honestly, I don’t even get off to real p0̸Яny-p0̸Яn, and not the heterosexual stuff at all. As a woman, most p0̸Яn just feels kind of violent to me, even though irl my proclivities can be pretty aggressive sometimes, not gonna lie there are handcuffs and a flail in the nightstand. But when I first started using Tumblr I really appreciated all the really affectionate, artsy, sapphic erotica on this website, because aside from real flesh-and-blood people, that’s literally the only type of media that actually arouses me. While my own blog probably won’t get deleted, and I deleted my own sideblog of nudes from Tumblr, I’m really going to mourn the loss of all the “female-presenting nipple” on this website. Tumblr was a platform for sapphic, female-curated erotica that was made and maintained by women for women and not the male gaze which dominates the p0̸Яn industry.

Same here! There’s really nothing like it on any other platform, and the idea of losing all that is really fucking depressing. That soft, female-focused erotica here is honestly one of the things that helped me realize I was sapphic myself.

Yeah, same here! I was just coming out around the time I first logged onto tumblr. This new policy is also destroying the livelihoods of female adult models. Also saying “female-presenting nipples” are “harmful to minors” is so fucking sexist. Nipples are not inherently sexual. All of Tumblr’s lip-service to gender equality over the years is total bullshit if they are going to condemn all femme nipples as guilty of perversion until appealed and proven otherwise.

Absolutely. They can try and couch it in pc-sounding language all they want, but at the end of the day, it’s a whole lot of misogyny. I would unfortunately argue that their allyship has kind of always been bullshit, what with all the issues with LGBT tags and refusal to deal with harassment aimed at women and sex workers. I can’t say I’m surprised, but I’m certainly disappointed.

So I’m going to try and keep my blog up for as long as the Tiddy Police will let me, but just in case…

I don’t use them often, but I suspect that’ll change soon.

If we’re mutuals/pals, feel free to ask for like, Facebook or Battletag or whatever, idk. I’ll probably update this with WordPress or Pillowfort once I actually make them.

Why I’m So Angry

quickienewyork:

I’m trying to calm down enough to get some of this out, but it’s difficult. I’m angry. And while I’m angry for a whole lot of reasons, the one big one that stands out is the one Tumblr and Apple would really like us to ignore.

So I’ll try to be as clear and concise as I can.

Both Apple and Tumblr are more comfortable with violence than sex.

It sounds simple, but the truth is more terrifying.

They are explicitly saying that they find a gif of someone being decapitated less offensive than the nipples of a woman.

When someone tells you their values, you should believe them.

Tumblr and Apple are saying that they are more comfortable with images of swastikas (an image which unequivocally advocates genocide) than they are with a naked human body.

Let that sink it. It’s not a fluke or a meaningless and unrelated result of a content policy change. It’s what they firmly believe.

When someone tells you their values, you should believe them.

Tumblr and Apple (and most other US companies to be sure) believe that mass murder, serial killings, rape, eye gouging, strangling, mutilation, child abuse, and a thousand other graphic images, videos, and GIFS are more acceptable to them than a nipple.

When someone tells you their values, you should believe them.

When we culturally decide (which have done forever) that violence is more acceptable than sex, then we create a culture which is more acceptance of violence than it is sex.

Which means that more people will die because that is exactly what happens when you suppress sexuality and glorify violence.

And Tumblr and Apple know this and they do not care.

When someone tells you their values, you should believe them.
