I’m at this point where I’ve put so much distance between myself and WoW aside from drawing that like, it needs reaffirming that any of the Blizz writing and dev team and not actively bad or malicious people and never do things with the intent of being harmful, they’re just…a corporation. A kind of dumb one. They sort of just Do Things with the intent to drum up shock, press, and short term, surface-level intrigue to drum up a dollar. Everything about their company’s cult of personality and WoW comes down to keeping subscriptions and selling merchandise (primarily faction-emblem merchandise). Unfortunately under even the simplest lens of critical analysis of WoW (or almost all their IPs to be honest) you see the seams immediately.
When they make a boo-boo, either in terms of gameplay design or writing, they don’t do it on purpose, and they don’t seem to have the smarts or foresight to actually predict that their Next Big Move is going to be poorly received. They also don’t seem to understand just How Big their mistakes can be either, because again: kind of dumb. They don’t actively care much about the universes and characters they make, and more about the spectacle and what they think they can sell. That’s backfiring on them a lot lately. It’s backfired before. They will not learn, and have written themselves into a scenario where the only way to make corrections to the current story and body of WoW’s work is to wipe the slate absolutely clean.
So you just kind of. Have to play and accept that it’s never going to get better and enjoy what you can, or just accept that it’s done for you and move on.
