A backflow preventer in each of your basement drains will save you THOUSANDS of dollars in damage if your basement floods. They cost about $15 each. 

It really is heartbreaking to get the calls of “There’s a foot of water in my basement and I lost everything!” but this just happened two years ago. It’s raining. Heavily. The water has nowhere to go. It’s worse in recent years because of global climate change. 

We’re working on building a new retention basin. 

But you need to be proactive. Let your neighbor’s basement back up instead of yours.
