mad-maddie:

Debating if I’m going to colour this later. Maybe…maybe…and it looks weirdly fuzzy on Tumblr? Whyyyyyy.

In Shaadren’s younger life before the Sundering, she still went by her birth name, Shaalia Shen’olar. Though her father is an unknown Highborne man, her mother was a very adept mage, who would later go on to work in Queen Azshara’s court. Shaalia, unfortunately, seemed to possess absolutely no arcane abilities whatsoever despite the intense schooling her mother put her through and hired, strict tutors, which made the emotional rift between the two greater. Shaalia’s mother was simply not a very nice person, and Shaalia’s birth was an accident to begin with, so as soon as it became obvious she would not become a spectacular mage as well Shaalia’s mother wanted little to do with her beyond gaining sympathy from others about how she was raising an “ungrateful, talentless child”.

Shaalia did practice archery though, winning several small titles and commemorative prizes in her youth from recreational summits. And though she despised her mother, she grew up spoiled in all the luxuries of the Highborne caste’s culture, and as a young woman long after her marking ceremony became well-known in certain circles for her frivolous partying. When she became depressed with this scene of the culture, she returned to practicing her archery and eventually found her way into the palace guard in Zin-Azshari as an archer. She fled into mainland Kalimdor to escape the War of the Ancients and the Sundering, taking neither her Queen nor the rebelling side for unknown reasons; she simply ran away.
